Y después de toda la verborrea del titulo diré que Joomla, como todos los sistemas multi-plugins, multi-desarrolladores, multi-extensiones, multi-plataformas, etc, a veces fallan y no sabes por donde cogerlos. Porque aunque vayas a la carpeta "log" en el raiz de tu sitio, puede que sea cómo este caso, que no hay mayor información del error.
Si no has tocado los permisos de los usuarios (Configuración > Pestaña Permisos) quizás hayas tenido el problema de los permisos "Assets" de los componentes. El cual puedes arreglar garcias al foro joomla aquí:
